Pyung Hoa-Peace in Korean
A special thanks goes to Rob and Sandy Gilley from Pacific Surf Gallery in Cardiff, CA www.pacificsurf.comfor recommending me to Danny Salzhandler, president of Artists Colony 101.
“I was inspired to paint an Arts Alive banner for the City of Encinitas, using the Yin and Yang symbols that represent the male and female principals and the trigrams representing the heaven, earth, water, and fire from the South Korean flag. . I created something that touched me deeply both politically and personally. “Pyung Hoa” means Peace in Korean.”
I was born in Seoul, Korea, and I grew up with fear that one day North Korea would destroy the one of the most beautiful cities in the world. As Ilana Mignon quoted me in Coast News, “I hope for world peace, but I am not against war, if it means to stop communism.” “Pyung Hoa” hung proudly on Hwy 101 in Encinitas, CA near Seaside Bazaar until May 2003.
